DESCRIPTION

The Srirangapatna Fort was first built in 1454 in Indo-Islamic style of architecture. Since then the fort has seen many changes and renovations which came with the change in the reigns. It eventually came under Tipu Sultan.
During his rule major changes were made to the fort. This fort is spread over 240 acres of land and is said to have had around 1500 houses and inhabited close to 6000 people and was well equipped with drainage and piping system.
The fort was developed as a prime defense base for Tipu Sultan and his army where they had launched an attack against the British Army. Later in 1799, the British Army had defeated Tipu Sultan and he was killed in the fort itself.
